As a MESSA member, you now have more options to get the medical and mental health care you need, when you need it.

Through a partnership with Teladoc Health, MESSA members and covered dependents can visit Teladoc Health online or download the Teladoc Health app from the Apple Store and Google Play. Once registered, you will have access to the following services:

Teladoc 24/7 Care

Visit with a board-certified provider for colds, sore throats, sinus infection, or strep throat and other minor illnesses or injuries. No appointment is necessary and the average wait time is 10 minutes.

Teladoc Mental Health

Connect with a licensed therapist or U.S. board-certified psychiatrist to get treatment for mental health concerns, such as grief, anxiety, depression and more. These visits require an appointment. Evening and weekend appointments are available. }

Teladoc Virtual Primary Care

This new service allows members and covered dependents who are 18 years and older to visit with a U.S. board-certified Teladoc Health primary care provider from the comfort of their home. This option is fast, convenient and can cut down the average wait time to see a provider to less than a week.

Teladoc Chronic Condition Management

Teladoc offers free programs for qualifying members to provide support for these common conditions:

Frequently asked questions

Starting on Jan. 1, 2024, eligible members can enroll in Teladoc Health through the Teladoc Health app, website or by calling 1-800-Teladoc. During registration, you’ll be asked to add your MESSA health plan information to your Teladoc Health Virtual Care account.

  1. Open the Teladoc Health app, click Find a Doctor and then Virtual Care.
  2. Choose a service: 24/7 Care, Mental Health or Virtual Primary Care.
  3. Pick a provider or begin a scheduled visit.
  4. Meet with the provider online.
  5. If you need a prescription, ask for it to be sent to your preferred in-network pharmacy.
  6. After your visit, you can share an optional visit summary with your regular primary care provider.

Think of 24/7 Care as your virtual urgent care — you don’t need an appointment, and the average wait time is 10 minutes. You would use Teladoc 24/7 Care to visit with a U.S. board-certified provider for minor illnesses and injuries. Medical visits are available 24/7, anywhere in the United States. If you need a prescription, it can be sent to your preferred pharmacy.

You can have a virtual visit with a therapist or psychiatrist when you’re struggling with challenges such as anxiety, depression, grief and more. Schedule an appointment when it’s convenient, including nights and weekends, after work or while away from home.

This private and confidential mental health care gives you more options and access. It’s meant to provide ongoing, long-term support.

Please note: Teladoc provides routine psychological and psychiatric treatment. Teladoc does not provide treatment for complex mental health and substance use disorder conditions.

Talk therapy is available for members ages 13 and older. Members seeking medication therapy can schedule psychiatry visits, available for members ages 18 and older. A parent or guardian will need to be present at the start and end of therapy visits for children ages 13 to 17.

Just like the name says, 24/7 Care is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week without an appointment. Mental health visits are available by appointment only. Licensed therapists and U.S. board-certified psychiatrists are available from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. You need to make an appointment for Virtual Primary Care visits. You can usually have your first appointment within five days and future visits within 1-2 days.

Teladoc Health 24/7 Care visits are subject to a $65 charge before the deductible is met for all plans. For all other visit types, the amount can vary by provider and service type. Once you meet the deductible, you’ll pay the following set of copayments for visits and coinsurance for services:

  • Teladoc Health 24/7 Care: $10 copay for Balance+ and Essentials by MESSA; $20 copay for most Choices plans; and no copay for ABC plans but coinsurance may apply.
  • Teladoc Health Mental Health: $10 copay for Balance+ and Essentials by MESSA; $20 copay for most Choices plans; and no copay for ABC plans but coinsurance may apply.
  • Teladoc Health Primary Care: $25 copay for Balance+ and Essentials by MESSA; $20 copay for most Choices plans; and no copay for ABC plans but coinsurance may apply.
  • Teladoc Chronic Condition Management: These programs are free for qualifying MESSA members and covered dependents.

Teladoc Health providers are specially trained in online visits. You can read their profiles to learn about each provider, including languages they speak, education and gender.

Providers have an average of 20 years practicing medicine and are U.S. board-certified. They have experience in areas such as pediatrics and family medicine. Psychiatrists are board-certified in psychiatry. When requesting an online visit through the Teladoc Health app, you can view available providers who are licensed to perform services based on your location.
