MESSA ABC

Learn how to get the most out of your MESSA ABC plan

MESSA ABC is our most popular health plan for good reason: It offers a smart way to pay less in monthly premiums and save for out-of-pocket medical expenses.

As a high-deductible health plan (HDHP), it reduces your monthly premium cost — the amount that comes out of your paycheck. An added bonus is that it comes with a health savings account (HSA), a powerful financial planning tool that provides a triple tax benefit.

If you’re new to your ABC plan, learning how to manage that higher deductible can be challenging at first. But once you master it, you’ll appreciate the exceptional benefits and financial security it provides, both now and in the future.

MESSA offers four ABC plans

The deductible for ABC 1 is set at the lowest rate allowed by the IRS for a high-deductible health plan. It’s subject to change every Jan. 1 to remain HSA eligible, per IRS rules.

The deductible for ABC 2 is set at $2,000 for single coverage and $4,000 for 2-person and family coverage.

MESSA’s newest health plan, ABC 2.5 has a higher deductible than ABC 1, which allows for a lower premium, and is subject to change each Jan. 1 to align with IRS increases.

ABC 3 offers the lowest premium for an ABC plan with a deductible of $3,500 for single coverage; for 2-person and family coverage the deductibles are set at $3,500 for individual and $7,000 for family.

Health savings account

With an HDHP, you’ll have higher out-of-pocket costs until you hit your deductible. It’s important for you to budget for it each year, and that’s where your health savings account comes in.

Your HSA is a tax-free savings account designed to help you cover qualifying medical, vision and dental expenses. You can use it to pay your deductible, copays, coinsurance and more. It provides you with triple tax savings — you pay no taxes on contributions, earnings or withdrawals.

The money in the account is all yours. It rolls over from year to year, and you own the account forever.

MESSA partners with HealthEquity to administer your HSA. HealthEquity’s member portal provides helpful tips on how to maximize your health savings account.

To get there, log into your MyMESSA member account and select “View your account” in the HealthEquity box in the left column.

Preventive care

With your ABC plan, preventive care is free when you and your covered dependents go to an in-network provider. This includes:

  • One annual exam a year
  • Up to two gynecological exams a year
  • Annual cancer screenings, such as colonoscopies and mammograms, with some age restrictions
  • A long list of immunizations and vaccines, including flu and pneumonia; COVID 19; tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (Tdap); tetanus and diphtheria (Td); measles, mumps and rubella (MMR); and zoster (shingles)
Mammogram

Extensive list of free preventive drugs

MESSA’s ABC plans include an extensive list of preventive drugs that are covered at no charge — no deductible, no copayment and no coinsurance. This helps stretch your health care dollars and limit your out-of-pocket costs.
