To help set your mind at ease, qualifying MESSA members and covered dependents can get a second opinion from a medical specialist with 2nd.MD, a virtual consultation service. Experts across hundreds of subspecialties and thousands of conditions are available through a 2nd.MD provider, and each one is a board-certified specialist recognized as a leader in their field.

And this service is available at no cost.

Do I qualify?

Start by connecting with MESSA’s Medical Case Management (MCM) team to see if you qualify. Our certified case management nurses work directly with members and their families who have a variety of catastrophic injuries or illnesses, including head and spinal cord injuries, amputations, severe burns, multiple fractures, cancer, multiple sclerosis, stroke, muscular dystrophy and infants with complex medical issues.

After discussing your case, an MCM nurse will determine if a 2nd.MD consultation is the right option for you and begin the process of connecting you with 2nd.MD.

If you qualify, the 2nd.MD care team will contact you to get your history and request your medical records. After a thorough review, a live consultation with a specialist will be scheduled, either over the phone or via video chat. Once your consultation is complete, 2nd.MD will provide a written summary and follow-up, including additional treatment options when warranted.
