Letters for your auto insurance carrier

Two letters confirming you have MESSA coverage that are often requested by your auto insurance carrier can be found in your MyMESSA member account.

Each letter serves a distinct and specific purpose:

  • Notice of qualified health coverage for auto personal injury protection (PIP) benefits: Changes to Michigan’s no-fault auto insurance law that took effect in 2020 allow Michigan residents to customize the personal injury protection benefits (PIP) on their auto coverage if their health insurance meets certain requirements. This letter confirms that your MESSA health plan meets the state-mandated criteria.
  • Coordination of medical benefits form for auto insurance: This letter confirms that MESSA members and their covered dependents have coverage under a MESSA health plan, and acknowledges that MESSA will be the primary payer of medical benefits as long as the member maintains a coordinated no-fault auto policy.

You can find both letters by logging in to your MyMESSA member account and selecting the “Benefits” menu. Scroll down to “Additional resources,” where the two letters are listed by name under the “Medical” section of “Plan information.”
