6 tips to feel good about your body through menopause

When people talk about menopause in euphemisms and whispers — “The Change” — it can create a sense of uneasiness or embarrass¬ment about the changes you’re going through. On top of that, you may feel like you’re entering a new relationship with your body, and dealing with symptoms that can be frustrating and exhausting.

With all of these factors, it’s easy to see why some women feel uncomfort¬able about their bodies around menopause.

Here are a few things you can do to help build a happier, more confident relationship with your body:

Exercise and eat well. Doing these fundamental things makes you feel better, which can help you feel happier and more at ease in your body.

Take time to do things that make you feel good. It could be yoga, a new haircut or starting a new luxurious skincare routine.

Do something meaningful that reminds you of the wonderful things your body can accomplish. You might want to take on a home improvement project, volunteer for a cause you believe in, or work toward a new exercise goal. Go for it!

Remember the parts of your body you love. Take a few minutes to write down the things about your body that are worth celebrating.

Treat menopause symptoms if they’re getting you down. If hot flashes, sleep disturbances or vaginal dryness are making you uncomfortable, there are lifestyle changes and medications that can help. Talk with your health care provider to see what options are available.

Talk with people who are going through the same changes. It can help to talk (and laugh!) through it all with people who understand what you’re going through. Reach out to friends and family, or search for support groups.
