Love your MESSA? Become a MESSA ambassador

When Holly VanSickle became an ambassador in 2017, she had three goals in mind: learn everything about MESSA’s products, inform her colleagues about the exceptional health benefits and bring her school district back to MESSA.

She accomplished all three.

“I love being a MESSA ambassador because I believe that we can impact our health care costs through education and changed behavior,” said VanSickle, a high school teacher in the Potterville School District. “Being an ambassador gives me the resources to encourage behavior that will directly impact our health and pocketbooks.”

VanSickle is one of more than 100 ambassadors, volunteers who meet virtually once a month with MESSA staff to gain in-depth knowledge about MESSA benefits, member services and health care trends. The goal is for each ambassador to share the knowledge they gain with their colleagues and be a champion for everything that MESSA offers.

As a bonus, ambassadors get the opportunity to meet with school staff from across Michigan to network and share ideas during their monthly meetings. Ambassadors also meet in person at regional gatherings, tour MESSA’s headquarters every June and hold in-person meetings at the Michigan Education Association’s winter and summer conferences.

“I love being an ambassador because I serve other members in a more efficient way, and maybe provide them with information they don’t know,” said Amy Smith of Hudsonville Public Schools.
