New home delivery pharmacy in 2022

Optum Rx is new home delivery pharmacy starting 1/1/22

Starting Jan. 1, 2022, Optum Rx will provide home delivery and other prescription services for MESSA members with a MESSA ABC, Choices or Essentials by MESSA plan.

If you don’t receive prescriptions in the mail, it’s likely you won’t notice a difference.

If you have received home delivery prescriptions through Express Scripts, the transition may be more noticeable. There will be a new online member portal through Optum Rx, a few new forms to fill out and different packaging when your medication arrives.

Most home delivery prescriptions will automatically transfer, but some won’t.

A prescription will not transfer if:

  • There are no remaining refills.
  • The prescription is expired.
  • An open prescription has never been filled.
  • The prescription is a controlled substance. Check the label to verify if your medication is a controlled substance. Unsure? Call our Member Service Center at 800-336-0013.

If these circumstances apply to you or a covered dependent, you will need a new prescription.

New prescriptions can be submitted to Optum Rx beginning Dec. 14, 2021. Prescriptions received between Dec. 14 and Jan. 1 will be filled and mailed after Jan. 1, 2022. Prescriptions for controlled substances must be submitted electronically to Optum Rx by your provider.

You can find Optum Rx mail order forms at messa.org/forms under Member Claims. The Optum Rx fax number for prescription forms is 800-491-7997.
