Quench your thirst the healthy way

One of the simplest ways to take care of your body is by drinking the most basic beverage available: water.

Water helps regulate your body temperature, lubricate and cushion your joints, protect sensitive tissue like your spinal cord, and rid your body of waste, according to Mayo Clinic.

Generally speaking, you should aim for six to eight 8-ounces glasses of water every day. Here are some tips for upping your intake:

  • Keep a bin of reusable water bottles near the door. When you’re heading out, grab one and fill it up.
  • Fill up a large jug with ice and water and keep it at your work station all day. Pour water into a smaller cup throughout the day, and refill it when it runs empty.
  • Add lemon or lime wedges to plain water to give it a little flavor boost.
  • Have a glass of water with every sit-down meal of the day.
  • Choose water over sugary beverages when you eat out.
  • Nix sport drinks and go for water instead. Nothing is as hydrating as plain old water.
